Dear Coalition for a DSP Living DeaDear Coalition for a DSP LivingWage:

As we reported to you earlier this month, the Coalition successfully advocated for increased funds in the FY19 Budget. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the process for distribution of the funds will take time and that as we learn more we will communicate that information out to all of you as soon as possible.

Please take note of the following points:

  • The Department of Human Services will need to recalculate the Medicaid rates in order to accommodate the newly appropriated funds. It is likely that making the necessary changes to the rates will take a number of months. We will let you know when the process is complete and DSP wage increases can be expected.
  • Although we advocated for a $1.25 per hour increase, the final budget appropriation did not ultimately include enough funding to make that happen. Until the Medicaid rates are changed to incorporate the new funds, we will not know how much the hourly wage increase will be.

Please be patient as the work to implement this funding begins. We will always share updates with you as soon as we have the information. We thank you for your commitment to increase wages for the dedicated Direct Support Professional workforce and we look forward to continuing this important effort with all of you by our side.
